technics 631

hi, i recently was given a technics 631 tape deck. I think its really good, the nicest tape ive ever heard. To be fair im only comparing it to rubbish ones tho. I was just wondering if any of you guys could tell me what the memory switch and the timer swith do. the memory makes a red light come on, the timer doesnt seem to do anything and its really winding me up! Also do you have any tips on how to make it sound better?

Hi,

The memory should allow you to rewind to a saved fixed point.

The timer should allow you to record a radio programme at a later time.
You probably will need to set the tape recorder to record/pause.

Only tip is buy / find a demagnetising tape head cleaner cassette.

yea i figured the memory out by my self. thanks anyway! Any ideas about the timer? If i press it when fastforward or rewind it stays down. otherwise it just pops up again.
