RB250 or 300??

I´m planning to build a second TT, but this time I aim for a Rega arm. Should I go for the 250 or 300? My intentions are to modify them with new cabling, counterweight etc. Any suggestions?

Do you probably need a Grace 707 (classical...) or a Syrinx PU2 (very Ittok classical...)?

If you want to tweak the arm anyway, there's no need to go for the 300. The most important difference between them ist the massive counterweight of the 300 and the metal rod it sits on (plastic on the 250). The other differences are negligible.

I haven't looked closely to compare, but I am told that the bearing assembly on the 300 is supported from one side only, whereas the 250 is supported on both sides. If true, the 250 would be the better bet. I also note that there are any number of mods available for the 250...

I agree with Holger. I have very good experiences with the RB250, twaeking is quite easy, and the arm seems to be quite tolerant for significant modifications.
Are you planning a suspension TT or one with a massive base?

This is not true. Arm tube and bearing assembly of both arms are as good as identical. I have cutaway model of the RB 300, I'll try to post some photos later.

Because of the rotatable tracking force adjustment set by spring
on the RB300 they are not the same. The "yoke" on the RB250
is one piece, on the RB300 is appaears to be two pieces.

Though for sure the armtubes are identical.

Hi,
somebody told me that the RB300 would be the better choice for a suspension-type turntable because the 250 would lack overall weight balance. I don't have them, so it is probably an urban myth...

The 300 supposedly has better quality bearings and the spring applied stylus pressure helps to ride warps. If you do not like the spring method you can turn it all the way up and effectively out of operation and set force by moving the copunterweight with a gauge....
I believe good value is the RB300 with the tungsten counterweight and stub. Available on request from Rega and from Moth.

Forgot... Plastic mounting base on 250, steel on 300. Thread also seems a different material...
