Default How do you clean a sticky LP

I have an LP record that I left on the player and forgot about it for a few months. One day I opend the turn table cover and discovered the matt had totally melted into some sort of gooy stuff with the LP stuck in it. After removing the gooy matt from the platter and separating the LP from the gooy matt, I could not figure out any way to clean the LP.

Does anyone have any idea how to do it?

Because this is so very dirty just use undiluted denatured alcohol (ethanol) or isopropyl..normally record cleaning fluids have these alcohols as the main active ingredient...diluted with distilled water..in this case the distilled water will be of no use. If the alcohol does not work..I don't know what will without damaging your lp...

I was also wondering whether those label removers will damage LPs or not.

Try using Varsol. Pour some on a cotton cloth and try wiping the goo off. The Varsol shouldn't do anything to the record. I use it all the time to clean glue off vinyl floors after installation. Still i've never done it with a record.. so try a small spot first.
