Hi. Steve Clarke here. I just thought some of the members of this forum might enjoy following the progress in a turntable restoration project. The subject table is a Thorens Prestige. A flagship model produced by Thorens during the 1980s and 1990s. This particular table was found in very sad condition, as can be seen in the above photo. The new owner, Rolf Kelch, had just purchased the contents of a closed down turntable factory in Germany. The very factory used to produce the Prestige, Reference, TD524 and TD738 models. In a heap of rubble was found this forlorn Thorens Prestige. Rolf came to find out that this particular table served as a test bed for developing the electronics. As such it never spun a record. Nevertheless, Rolf is determined to restore this one particular table into its final form and keep it as a record spinner for his own private use. Prestige Project Link above to follow the project. thanks, -Steve |

Steve,
Good luck, you'll need it. Beautiful site you have there, I pay visits to it on a regular basis, even just for fun, the nice pictures and great knowledge. /Hugo

This pic above shows some contrast to the previous "as found" photo seen in the opening post. Rolf has made much progress in this project. Even so, the Prestige has many components to be renovated. A casual trip through the growing gallery of photos makes this plainly obvious. Prestige Project -Steve http://www.theanalogdept.com |
