there are electronic controls on the record player too. There are buttons for start, stop, 33, and 45. If you press the 33 button (to select 33) then push the start button, the arm comes up, moves over, and goes to about the middle of the record, instead of at the beginning of the record. Is there an easy way to fix this?? tia!

Probably, you can use any pickup with not too "loose" stylus. If you could take a picture I would be easier to tell. I was around in the 70's and Philips so I may recognize it.
About your tone arm. You obvoiusly have to do a surgery. Try to remove the platter and open up the TT.
