Technics SU-300MC pre-preamp

Am I right in assuming that the Technics SU-300MC pre-preamplifier is a step-up for moving coil to MM level inputs?

It was produced back in the eighties and has a three position front mounted knob for MM/Battery Check/MC.

It runs on 6 "D"-cell batteries.

Thanks...was looking for affirmation to what I believed.
I recently acquired and it's simple enough and I've the schematic
to try some tweaking...
