Ideal motor housing (Gyrodec ac Papst motor)

I'm modernising an old Transcriptors Skeleton TT, and have sourced a Mitchell Gyrodec AC motor, which is a high speed 24v synchronous "inside out" design. Although this motor is reputed to give a very smooth drive, it also produces more noise than some, and in the open plinth of the skeleton, there is nothing to block the noise. So, like Michell and the Gyrodec, I'm thinking of building a stand alone motor housing. My current thinking is to use a twin wall acrylic tube with the gap filled with lead shot to give mass and damping, or even go for three tubes with lead between the outer and some form of foam fill on the inner.
However, has anyone got any good ideas for form and materials?
