Default Help with tonearm mod + phono stage.

Hi.

Im rebuilding my turntable from MDF to pure bamboo. Since Its a new style, I thought I would start thinking in upgrades. Im dreaming off drilling my RB251 tonearm, but where can i get a template? Then I need a structural weight upgrade, and rewire.

New TB:

The most important upgrade at the moment is my phono stage. Got a cheap Pro-ject at the moment, and Im so bored whith it.

I need somekind of complete diy phono stage kit. Im thinking a max of about 300$. Im a noob at shopping parts. Pretty good at soldering so i believe i can do it.
The thing is that i want a bamboo case for my phono stage.
My dream would be something with tubes but not shure my price max can do it.

My system is
Linn Classik Movie DI
Linn LK140 amp
DIY Micro seiki/Rega RB251-Ortofon red PU - TB
Crappy Pro-ject Phono stage.
FH 3 with Alpair 7

Really hope theres some ideas.

Searched the web thin, but i find it very difficult finding the phono stage for my steup.
(Because Im a newbie that is)

Thanks.

About the phono stage. I need a complete kit version. I dont get it. I havent got a clue if a part is good or bad when shopping. And i dont have a clue what they do.
My alternative is bying a comercial, and rip it apart to put it in a bamboo box.

Kit as a box with all parts and a manual to put it together. Well guess i can handle bying a seperat PS.

I have just found the Oatley Electronics K301 and looks like something i can handle. Even better i read that it wont get warm. I intend to put it in a wooden box. Any of you guys build it and are able tell me if this is true?

The tonearm upgrade is about drilling holes in a pattern like this from audio mods Rega arm conversion kits and DIY mods

Guestion is, does there exist a drilling template elswhere than audiomods?
Find this mod very interesting.

ah, you're not planning going diy way on phono stage, maybe others will recommend some
but I have a weak spot for Thorsten's iFi Phono

misunderstood hole patterns here, hope you find someone kind enough making paper template of it. easy to do, wrap a paper covering arm and do the pencil trick..voila..

Depends on what you call diy. I call i diy as long as its not a completed consumer product from your local HI-FI dealer.

I see your point whith the pattern there, but Ill hope for the real deal.

Default Hole drilling in RB250 arm

Even if you could get the template for drilling the arm to the Audiomod's patter, you will not get the same advantages as with that arm. There is more to it than just drilling holes. Jeff at Audiomod's has spent 1,000's of hours fine tuning the whole package to work together. Just picking 1 item from the list will not necessary give your arm an improvement. However you can buy a complete Kit from Jeff to build yourself. It is one of the best buy's in audio at the moment and it builds up into a arm that can rival an SME V
