Default Soundsmith cartridges....

SOUNDSMITH OTELLO MOVING IRON CARTRIDGE at Music Direct

Anyone here familiar with the Otello or soundsmith cartridges on a hold ..?

If I understood Soundsmith web, all Soundsmith carts need a special phono preamp.

The otello is a MI design, it works with a standard phono stage ....

The more basic Moving Iron cartridges are quality pieces and very capable trackers. They have a little lower than normal output right around 2.2mv therefore benifir from a little more gain than most MM cartridges. They are smooth and even sounding. The lower end aluminum cantilever elliptical should be a little fuller on the bottom and lower mids. Unless using a very heavy tonearm I would stick to there higher compliance spec, just my opinion.
