Good morning all,
Has anyone measured the output signal of the playback heads on a Tascam 42B or 52 reel to reel tape deck? I think the output from these playback heads are low, but I don't really know. Any information anyone can provide will be most helpful. Thank you all so much. jazzbo |

Normally you would need a known tape of known flux density to determine the output from a head.
I can't see any reason for the output to be low tbh

Good morning Mooly,
Thank you so much for your quick reply. I was told that the playback head signal from a Tascam 40 or 50 series was about 30 ohms. I thought that was very low, but then I don't really know ![]() jazzbo |

That does sound very low (off the top of my head) but I couldn't really quote any specific figures to you. I would have imagined nearer 300-600 ohms at a very wild guess.

Are you looking for signal output level from the head as you ask
- or measuring the resistance as you quote? Signal level is in mV - not ohms.

Good even and thank you all for your comments. While I understood some tape deck playback heads have a higher output than others, I wondered if the playback heads on my Tascam was high, moderate or low output? I thought someone could comment because of their own personal experience. Thanks so much.
