The way I have successfully rewired a good few arms is to remove the plug in the column and solder the wires - all of them - together and to a new single wire which is stronger than the bunch of existing wire. Undo the headshell end and gently draw the bunch back out of the arm....the single wire will follow. If you meet an obstruction reduce the pressure and gently move the arm on its bearings until things realign correctly. When you have drawn all of the old wire through, pull the new single wire clear enough to solder your new wiring in place of the old wiring and reverse the above process.

When the new wire comes through, solder the plug back onto the new wire, replace the plug when the arm is at the full horizontal limit of travel and lowest point in the vertical plane. Then re-solder the cartridge ends to the head shell retaining collar, or tags, making sure that you have left enough wire for safety. Then test for continuity and shorts. If all is well - as it should be - secure the arm plug/s, refit the arm to TT, re-test for continuity and shorts. Assuming all is still good, then fit cartridge and enjoy.:)
