I'm about to wire up a pair of Altec 4722s in a box to use with my low output moving coil cartridges. I'm also looking to buy a pair of the Partridge 977s and do the same.
What is the best wire to use? Thanks! Steve |

I'm looking at the Kimber CU25S (25 ga. solid core) and the Kimber DTC23 (23 ga. solid core). Any advice?

FAR more important is your connectors. Are you committed to using standard RCA or do you have some flexibility? The second issue is the sockets for the 4722s- the socket-to-pin contact is critical at these signal levels. The third issue is the transformer response- the 4722 is very finicky about its source and load, and you'll probably need to play with load networks to get a decent transient response because of the capacitance on the secondary from the interconnect and the preamp.
Wire might run a very, very distant fourth.

Thanks SY,
Yes I'm going with RCAs. Might play with XLRs and balanced connection later; we'll see. I ordered some Kimber CU25S wire, and I'll report on how I make out wiring up the 4722s and some 977 Partridges I also have coming. Steve |
