Hi FdW
Thanks very much !... The '3.9' marking was made with simple 'old-school', rub-down dry-lettering ( Letraset etc. ). Not needed really... ...just thought we'd go for a nice-appearance for the 'pack-shot' !... ![]() OK... ...just a quick 'resistor-round-up'; for anyone who wants to try their own. The insulation, winding, encapsulation & lead-out fixing, are all great !... ...we would use those methods again, no probs. One slight improvement for future resistors though. All the wire-types we had were 'Nickel-Chromium', and as such, are 'un-solderable'. ![]() The connections to the lead-outs, were tied, wrapped about a dozen times; then crimped ( cold-welded ? ) under extreme pressure. Although the resistor measures correctly & appears pretty stable... ...we would much prefer the connection to be soldered, for absolute guarateed long term stability... ![]() ...so... ...off to e-Bay to get some more wire !. ![]() The type to look for is 'Copper-Nickel' or CuNi44, also called 'Isotan', 'Constantan' and sometimes 'Eureka-Wire' ( anyone know why ? ). ![]() Anyhow, we are going for some solderable 'Eureka' for the following resistor builds... ...solderable seems a best option here. ![]() I have seen this wire in 100 Ohm per metre & 50 Ohm per metre versions... ...others as well, I think. The resistors we want to make are all pretty low-value jobs... ...NO we're NOT thinking to do any 1 Meg Ohm ones !!! Could be a total wind-up !... ![]() ...might take a WEEK to construct. Mmmm... ...Have got 'The Godfather' Part I, II & III to watch though ( 9 hours ! phew ). Cheers. ![]() Si. |

What about this, I took a picture of my 'old-skool'-capacitor-stock, and I may be persuaded to donate a few. The question is; what do you need and what do I get
you see my previous price still has not arrived see Squirrel And G-Man Twenty Four Hour Party People Carnt Smile (White Out).............

Hi FdW
Thanks for the PM... ![]() oC tropical-fish... ...just my bad joke ! ( they don't like wide temp. range ! )... ![]() The resistors are all wire-wound. Mostly ceramic/glass, and some glass-fibre cored. ( we've had a load apart, for scientific-study...VANDAL ! )Spent the autumn on eBay adding to TSEC wire-wound stash... ![]() We now have enough for a ULTRA low-noise Reverse RIAA filter... ...the 2 new phono preamps & 4 shunt regulators... ...my valve amp Heathkit MA-12's rebuild ( going slowly, but gettin' there ! )... ...another amp project, with Toshiba MOSFET's ( gettin' there, as well ! )... ...a n d... ...a microphone !!! The board layout is for the reverse RIAA... ...when the workshop gets above 1 oC... ![]() ...we'll cut and drill the board. ( new Teflon experiment ! )... We've got quite a Tropical Fish stash as well ! Nice one FdW !... ![]() These will be swimming their way onto the new phono preamp & shunt boards... ...just drawing some layouts now; quite a few weird-size NOS parts need fitting in ! ( Abbey Road EMI Teflon's !!!...let it be...baby ! )... ![]() The wire-wound reverse RIAA is getting matched bunches of Philips Polystyrenes... ...spot on accurate...0% tolerance...ever so slight drift though... ...Mmmm...? Should I be using silver-mica for a slight improvement here ?... ![]() Dunno... ![]() More news soon... ...drawn board, cut soon as well, I hope !... ![]() ( iced-fingers permiting ! )... ![]() Cheers ![]() Si. |

Yas...yas...yas...
...another please !... Don't you just love NOS, retro, vintage, freakin' OLD components !!!... ...BIG, weird sizes, NOT bandoliered on tape... ...imported from the USSR ( and obscure counties of England ! )... ![]() Luvin' it !... ![]() Here's some potential layouts for the new phono pre... ![]() Workshop's still bŁ%!&$ cold !... ![]() ...so we draw now, & cut a bit later ( warmer ! )... ...let me see some Dafodils ( PLEASE !!! ) Cheers. ![]() Si. |
