Is there a better picture of the j107-k170 substitution assembly?
Also the build guide makes no mention of the j310-j109 substitution, I have the group buy parts am I correct to assume the j109 is dropping in place of the j310? If so, is the orientation the same?

The power supply J310's should be replaced by J113's.

Thank you for your ongoing patience. I read the suggested parts but still have the same questions. The group buy came with j109, 10pcs, are these not used? Also is there a better image of the j107 lead orientation when used in the k170 spot?
Do I need to purchase additional parts? I am clearly misunderstanding something, I humbly ask for your continued patience.

No problem :) In the power supplies you should use J113's and 1k Rgs's. For the RIAA circuit I'm sure that Hessener will jump in (as soon as he will be available :) (obviously :) (otherwise he already would have done so :)))).
 
I looked at the data sheets to see the pinouts of the k170-j107 and it looks like the board might have the wrong pin labeled for drain?
I'm really sorry if all this has been covered before. Still working from a cell phone so digesting this thread can be a brute.

This may unconfused you :) Please take notice of the fact that the suppliers of these devices took the liberty to show them (presumably there best (photogenic) side) from different sides, this may have been cause of some confusion :)

I don't know if this subject has been already discussed here.
I received my stereo pair Paradise PCB, second batch. Thanks all involved and especially Alfred for his kind support. I build my Pre-regulator (the same for all which worked hard on this project - a big Thank you!, and again thanks Benedetto!), and I think it's OK (but I'm not very sure - I have nonetheless some questions, but not here)

What I want to say is that I discovered a little (but important ) error on the PCB's. It's about a short on the plus rail, right on the first resistor - 330 ohm, that is put on the ground. The minus rail is just fine and the shunt reg delivers precisely the 18,2 volts.

So I don't know if anyone else had the same problem, just be careful!

Meanwhile I fixed the short, just by scratching and cutting the link between the resistor printed pad and the ground. All works like a charm, the both rails delivering the 18,2 volts.

Is it normal that the power stage of the shunt warm that much? I cannot put my finger onto the radiator. I have a Benedetto version of pre reg without the Hammond coils (thinking that they are expensive, but perhaps I was wrong), keeping the 40 ohm power resistors, so my pre-reg delivers 39 volts without load and 29 volts connected to the shunt input. Is it too much? Is this the reason for the high temperature of the shunt radiator?

And what can I do? Increase the value of the 40 ohm resistors? inserting the Hammond coils?
And the resistors are also very, but very warm, let's say very hot.

Very good spot, Emil. i can confirm that on my PCBs the same error can be seen: the rightmost pad of the resistor 330R (R100 in the schematic from 02/10/2012)is connected to input plus on the top layer and on the ground plane on the bottom layer. You can check that input connector measures short circuit between plus input and ground.
It's easy to sort out but it is important for the rest of us that it's known. I don't have a camera available, but maybe somebody else can take a picture.

Hi Frans.
I, or better said Werner @ Ireland had to decrease the
47R power resistors to half value because the estimated
power consumption of the entire Paradise circuit did not
match up to reality.
He got about 24V out of the complete (with those Hammonds)
prereg with the original 47R.
With 47/2 i recall around 27V (?).
So we decided to go for 22R.
And it works like a charm.
Remember,
with only Frans's Shunts the temperature of the cooler is
significant higher than with the RIAA hooked up.

On my Paradise Boards i can not find any shortage in this position.

I bought two transformers rated 2X24 V at 750 mA (Triad). But I measured 2X28 V AC. Is this OK? That gives at the end of the pre-reg +/- 39 V DC without any load.

i am a bit confused, because you wrote everything is working fine.
Next sentence it's not really as fine...:confused:
On behalf of the 39V without load, hook it up and measure whats left.
Is the RIAA already conected to the shunts ?
 
I can figure out that with the RIAA hooked up to the shunts, the total consumption increase up to the 200 mA rated, so the 47 R may cut the output voltage. I didn't finish the RIAA so I can't try this yet. Now, as I said, it's very hot (it becomes hot in 5 to 10 minutes) and that scares me. So I think to decrease the voltage a little bit more, by increasing the resistor on the pre-reg as you pointed out. Have the Hammonds that DC resistance, so that you needed to change the value of the resistor to 22R?
It's true that when I put a 120 R as a load to the pre reg I measured 25-26 VDC and the 40R were cooler.

About the short. I think that the huge 12 W 40 R Vishay resistors hindered the fuse to blow up, when I connected the pre reg to the shunt reg and the plus rail was in short to the ground. The Vishay became extremely hot, but the fuse didn't blow. Could this be a explanation?

So, be warned!

Well, Peter, I wrote the sentence immediately after repairing the PCB and seeing that the both rails gives me the 18 V. And that was, trust me, verrry fine for me. But after a couple of minutes I noticed the increasing in temperature. No more fine.

Didn't yet match the little black things. So RIAA needs to wait.

One other thing, in reaction to what Benedetto did say, you must check the shunt temperature with the RIAA operating. If the RIAA is not connected, then the shunt temperature will be way higher.
