Russco Studio B's are usually pretty cheap, can be modified to improve their performance. Fast starting idler drive, huge main bearing which IMO could be modified to take a ball gearing running on a thrust plate for some reduction in bearing noise. A large heavy is plinth required to soak up the vibration from the large motor.

Admittedly it might be more difficult on your side of the globe.

Over here they appear regularly on ebay and just last month the BBC World Service sold quite a few in two seperate auctions.
When new they cost about as much as a comfortable family home in London… well within the M25 anyway.

Postage might be a bit dear to Oz as they are quite large and weigh about 150kg.

The Beeb also had Technics SL10s specced for them, these were their portable decks for roadshows and such like plus the odd EMT 948.

Either way they'd still be a bargain compared to the record players in the links with all transport costs.
