Default Tracing fault on FM tuner

I have a digital microprocessor controlled FM tuner.

It does not output any sound or static. Plus it won't show any signs being received from a decent room mounted aerial. The signal strength meter sits at 0 db.

What could be wrong?

Where would I got to start to try to trace this fault?

I am after a roll after giving my pre amp, so am keen to get this fault fixed too.

How much experience do you have of fault tracing, especially on RF circuits? What test equipment do you have?

It could be something simple like a PSU fault, or it could be something complicated. First thing is to tell us what it is, and find a circuit diagram or service manual. Fiddling around in the dark will introduce new faults.

I agree with DF96. Check the power supply and see if it is outputting "correct" voltage-probably +5 and maybe +12 or higher, maybe a minus voltage also - look to see what IC regulator chips are there.

Some tuners have a muting function - maybe it's set too high and mutes everything?
