You will not get rid of all pops and ticks but you can certainy get the focus off of them to a large degree My experience is that especially cheep (and some expensive ones too) phono preamps seem to put alot more focus on the pops and ticks then others. The ones that constantly do so are the ones relieing on large amounts of feedback, the open loop bandwith of the amplifying devices in a phono stage needs to be alot better than 20-20k in my book. Passive riaa correction is ALLWAYS better in my oppinion, especially when it comes to pops and ticks. Try a tube phono stage with passive riaa correction will hear what i mean

Hi Nanook - yeps as far as I remember it was designed for an Oracle Turntable. At that time I worked in a audio retailer here in Denmark that carried higher end equipment and if I remember correctly I also got it with a special wiring. It was quite good but IMHO airborne tangential arms - everything else being equal - have the most stable and open sounds.

BTW I also heard something like this about John Lee Hooker. And I've heard it from many other musicians as well - as if they sort of tune into the energy of the music less so than how it actually sounds... Had some experiences with this myself so it makes sense to me ...

Best for your day ;-)
