I have just found an old style computer mainframe cabinet at the local recycle centre for $20- to hold all of the audio gear in one place.
Since it is big enough I think I may place the cheaper of my turntables inside this cabinet to make SWMBO happier. I have found a local supplier of good neodymium magnets and I was thinking of buying 8 of the N35 ring magnets and making a floating plinth. using the calculator here K&J Magnetics - Repelling Magnet Calculator I get a repelling force of 9kg per pair with a 1mm separation. I have put in a tentative order for 4 pairs. Thoughts?? I have a nice piece of 12mm acrylic that i was intending to use for another project and a lot of 32mm MDF. This type of cupboard uses steel clips and the edge of the steel shelf to hold everything in place, I was thinking of screwing a thin steel angle to the edge of a slab of 32mm MDF for the TT shelf and using epoxy to glue the Neo magnet in place with a combination of the Perspex and 12mm MDF for the floating shelf. The combination of 12mm MDF and 12mm Perspex weighs just on 3kg and the cheap Stanton TT ( the old ST8) weighs 8kg so leaving 20+ kilos of repulsive force. If this is a valid project I'd like to order and pay for the magnets while I can get the current sale price of $7- each
