Default Stanton STR8 , A giant killer!!!! wow

Got myself a new ' used' turnable this week end. A Stanton Str8 150, with a Groovemarster v3 cartridge and I think it beats my Heybrook TT2 Linn basic Grado Gold combo. It is well regarded in the DJ community, but you dont find nothing in the HIFI community except from Mapleshade audio who says it is super good....

My pre amp is a Conrad Johnson PV12 recently re tube......and my Heybrook was calibrate by Robert from Son Ideal in Mtl. So I was not expecting much from the Stanton ( a DD) but wow... it was super good!!!! Any info on those???? They sell for 599.00 , a good deal I think..... Tell me want you think!!!!

I wouldn't put any disc I cared about on the STR8.

Yes, the str8 arm is not the best for vinyls.... but it has a certain dynamic about it.. My other arm is a Linn Basic Plus.. also a strait arm...As I said, I was not expecting much about it.... but it plays very good.... maybe I'm destoying my vinyls....

Still, I see nothing attractive or non-generic.

Maybe It the sound from the cartridge that I like.... My grado Gold is soft, maybe less punchy . The Straton Str8 150 was equiped with the Groovemasters v3 ( the table was bought used....)

I have yet to order anything from them.

I've duplicated the best I could many of their resonant control products with excellent results. I have learned to trust their reasoning, logic and claims because of this.

I am looking for a beat up (hope to provide my own arm) direct drive TT to customize. The Mapleshade observations about the Stanton ST-150 puts it at the top on my list as a donor. I've not found anything close to it's torque start up numbers, at least not without adding zeros to the list price.
