Default Turntable sound output issues

So I was given a pair of Numark TT1550 turntables (I know, I know. But they were free ). One of them plays 100%, the other plays fine for about 2 minutes -- then the sound starts to degrade; it almost sounds like the speakers are blown, which is not the case. Is there a simple fix for this that I'm not seeing?
It would seem to me that if the needle was worn that badly it would occur immediately. I am lost .
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Oh, and I'm heading out tomorrow to get my new (to me) Technics SL-1600 .

Well, if you have two identical tables, why don't you simply try to interswap the needles between the two? I don't see much of an alternative reason than the needle to your problem. The table should not interfere in any way with the signal, except if speed variations become too large or the wiring is messed up.
