Hello, I have a TEAC V-416C Stereo Cassette Deck that has a nice sounding mic pre, but in order to use it, a tape needs to be in it and it has to be set on *record*, i usually *record* then *pause* to momentarily lock the tape while recording in REAPER>
However, I am worried that one day, as with all machines, the tape mechanism may break and I wont be able to use this as a Mic pre anymore. So I was wondering if it's possible to modify the tape deck somehow to bypass the record altogether and use the mic pre? It looks a little something like this but not quite. The mic jacks incorporate switches that route the signal to the mic amp .
So you need to open the box and : add two extra RCA for having the mics ouputs available ; bypass the switches. If you need to record from the microphone , just connect the RCA s on the back or just put a little double switch to do that function . This is from my guessing ...not sure if you can find inside the circuit some so-called 'analog switches' such as CD4066 to do the input routing. If the mic amp is on a separate Pcb ,it would be even easier , just take it outside and provide a proper power supply for it .
