Default Cheap tape echo?

I've made a delay from two desktop cassette recorders. It works, and the delay is ~3 seconds. Today I'm going to attempt to place another playback head right after the recording head.
I'm wondering about building a simple circuit just for tape head playback. I'm physics-minded in general, but know little about electronics. I found this thread:

cassette (tape) player circuit

But don't follow it all...

And supposing I wanted to make an extra stage of gain for bass, does it go like

opamp ->RLC bandpass -> opamp?

Thanks!

Modifying parts are usually wraped around opamp in feedback path. See opamp tries to make negative input look just like positive. So if you reduce low frequency in feedback path the output will show more (bass boost).

As to your tape echo project, you might try finding a three head machine, as theiy're getting cheaper all the time. But if you're set on adding head and electronics yourself you might look at a TA7626p IC that was made by toshiba. Nearly all the record/playback circuits in one chip. If you can't find that look at old National Semi Ap notes for tapehead playback circuits.

Good thinking! Those all-in-one tape ICs are a dim memory, but a pleasant one.

Cheaper still is to go by a thrift store and pick up a used portable cassette player and use the guts out of it. Why reinvent the wheel... unless just for fun?
