Default effect of cartridge impedance on phonocube or clone

I posted this on the chip amp forum and got no replies. Thought I would try here. Thanks for any information.

Hello all!
New to this site but have been around analogue audio a long time. I'm intrigued by the 47 Labs Phonocube and its successors. I'm currently using a Sumiko Blackbird cartridge, which has internal resistance of +/- 135 ohms. Will it work with the current amplifier phono stages? If you tried a high impedance cart what was your experience? I'm keen enough to go the phonocube route that I will buy another cart if necessary. It would have to cost less than a decent used car! The Dynavector X20XL looks like it might have possibilities. I welcome your comments. Cheers, Al

You are in luck, I just tried my Benz Micro Ace HOMC cart, it's 90ohms. I used 100ohms for R1 & 300ohms for R2 and the gain is perfect. Also the noise is incredibly low. On my homemade Phonoclone 3.

I would try 130ohms for R1 and 300ohms for R2 as a starting point.

Philip, Thanks for your reply. I don't know exactly how I will proceed but I'll let you know the results. Cheers, Al
