Smile Cornet2 Tube Phono PreAmp -Completed

Here are some pictures of my recently completed Cornet2. This is my first tube project, and I am quite happy with the results. I can truly see how the DIY bug can bite! I've also built the Part's Express Tri-Trix speakers and a Peter Daniels chip amp.

The stuffed board (just about complete). I used the recommended AuriCap upgrades.

In the chassis. I'm so glad I went with a larger footprint.

Test signal from cheap laptop sound card.

The square wave is noisy, but the Cornet is very accurate! Signal Input is on top trace, and output (through a home grown reverse RIAA network) is on bottom.

I've been listening to this beauty for about a month. I just recently built a reverse RIAA magic box to allow me to test it.

I do have one question. In the manual, the section on testing shows the 'Residual Distortion' on an oscilloscope. Does anyone know how to measure that?

Nicely executed project. The cornet is a good sounding phono pre IMLE..

The residual distortion displayed in the scope shot was probably the notch filter output on an analog distortion analyzer.

I think a sound card based FFT analyzer is both easier to interpret and provides a lot more data. (Plenty of threads on that subject.)

Yes, I agree this looks like a nicely put together project.

Nice looking scope BTW!
