I have just been reunited with my BD1/AT1005 combination which I built in the 70's. I am going to retire the BD1 for now but intend using the arm as part of a new combination which will be a winter project.
I would like to use a vintage turntable, i.e Thorens, Ariston etc and general condition would be uninportant as I would like to re-house it in my own plinth. For this reason I would prefer a non suspended unit. My question is, what are good candidates for such a project. Decent used turntable prices seem to have rocketed recently so if I can find a unit that needs a bit of work, that would be ideal. Any advice appreciated. Budget £100-£150. |

At least on this side of the salt sea -folks seem to be pretty regularly removing their RB series arms from Rega tables and then discovering that they have dramatically impacted the value of the table ( go figure!). Does this happen much in the Isles ? Only complications I can think of would be arm mounting distance and the clearance for the dustcover - both vertically and to the rear.
The upper end Denon's might trade for the kind of money you're looking at and lend themselves nicely to a new plinth.Hmm - maybe a Technics 1200 - just loose the arm and use yours. |

Maybe a Technics SP-15 or 25 and build a hefty plinth for it? The AT1005 ought to do quite nicely for a project of that sort. I'm going with an SP-15/AT-1009 combination.
