You have a phono input problem. First, is there a magnetic or ceramic cartridge? If the former, is there a proper preamplifier? Tinny phono sound is usually a case of improper equalization. As you may know, records are not recorded with flat frequency response; the highs are preemphasized and the lows deemphasized. The playback amplifier must have the opposite curve to create a flat overall response. It seems your system isn't doing that.

Ceramic cartridges have lousy high frequency response and so don't need corrective equalization. Magnetic cartridges do need it. Also, check the wiring to make sure you have both channels connected properly.
