What turntable rebuild

Hi,
I recently rebuilt a LP12 that someone had given me. It was a great deal of fun. I replaced the burnt out motor with Mark Kellys' Maxon DC board, refinished the plinth, replaced springs and washers and installed an Ittok arm.
I am itching to rebuild another turntable but cant seem to get through all the hype. I am sure the Thorens 124 is a great sounding turntable but a grand for one that was pulled from someones attic after sitting for 40 years neglected...come on. The same goes for the Garrard 301, gorgeous swiss engineering but perhaps a bit over priced?
Any suggestions for a turntable that offers great sound but it somewhat under appreciated by the audiophile community and thereby reasonably priced. More than anything i want the project to be fun, not monumental.
Any ideas?

Lenco comes to mind also a Thorens TD160 or Ariston RD11 For an affordable Rim Drive why not pick up an old Dual 1229. I owned one of these and thought the table itself sounded better than a Thorens TD160. I ended up buying a 160 so I could mount aftermarket arms. The Dual was an excellent sounding table and the gimbal in gimbal arm that was stock with the 1229 was not a bad arm either.
