It could start with this transformer. Simply rectified it has too much voltage. We can drop the voltage in resistors or we can use coils. Very good and inexpensive... I use the same.

This rectifier diode is hopelessly over dimensioned but hyperfast and soft recovery.

My first choice for rectifiers also

I would vote for a passive solution with coils.



Yes, passive is the way to go IMO gyrators can kill dynamics if not perfectly dimensioned.
