Have you tried VHS tape? Your pulley is long enough for that. Make sure when you make the splice, cut it diagonally for smoother rotation.

mm I tried vhs tape on mine, but I had a fair level of "rustling" which i put down to the tape flexing on the slightly crowned motor pulley. I have used reel to reel lead in tape though without any of those issues.
You can buy a length of lead in tape plus splicing kit on ebay for about $20. Enough to do a lifetime. Fran |

Speaking as someone who has machined his own turntable I am hugely impressed. Great job

Very impressive exercise in machinig it looks great, you should sell the rights to Mitchel. I would only have one "constructive criticism/observation and that is, do you think that the centre of gravity is to high?? It would maybe have been perhaps more prudent to make the lower section of the platter a bit larger and to arange the hanging weights to rotate around the base unit. Thus you could get the centre of gravity much closer to the base which greatly increases stabillity and acoustic properties in my judgement. Since I am also fortunate as a model engineer to have a well equiped precision workshop, you have motivated me to seriously consider designing and building my own unit.

Actually this turntable is just my implementation on Vinyl Addict's concept. If anyone sells the concept to Mitchell, it is him. He was very kind to help me along with the table and for that I am very thankful. Frank (Vinyl Addict) is one of the most talented machinists around. For that matter, he is a pretty talented turntable designer also.

Hi
I don't mean to hijack this thread. I just have a question. Is a granite plater OK for diy tt ? If not what are the disadvantages? Thanks |

Sure, it would work. The only caveats would be it's weight and machining the platter.
