Friends,I have a thorens TD125mkII turntable.I want to find a most suitable tonearm for it,now I have Rega RB300 in hand, but it seems to heavy,my badget is under 500USD,which one can be my choice? Also, would you pls advise certain cartridge for Jazz record as well? Many thanks!
Hey'
I would ditch the 300b as i had a few turntables including an lp12 and I have 2 td 125's. The linn had a grace 707 when I bought it but I swapped it out for a Linn Basik LV.. whilst a cheap arm it sounded nice. When I subbed the rb300 on it it just didnt sound any good at all and that is for the Linn the td 125 and a royce spectrum I had. I dont think the Rb300 suits suspended decks well. Some say sme3009 but it is dated in sound.. perhaps a Jelco?
As for cartridges that depends.. I never like any of the mid range ortofon Moving coild I tried.. The best cart i heard and this is only for my ears and system is an AT 150mlx.. until the cantilever broke!!!(accident not defect)
The best bet is settle on an arm then try to audition some different carts.
Good luck with that

Thanks for reply.I heard that TD125 should be equiped by low-mass tonearms, such as SME3009III ,and in SME3009III,the first generation is the best,is that true? But SME3009III is designed for high compliance MM cartridge,so any low mass tonearm can serve both MC and MM cart well?
