I haven't used my TC-KE500S cassette deck in a while. I just tried playing a cassette but heard a crinkling noise. The transport was damaging my tape. 
I tried another tape. Same result. Fortunately it didn't eat the tape!
I checked the capstan and pinch roller and both were clean. I cleaned them anyway but it didn't make a difference.
Two possibilities occur to me: a bad pinch roller or an alignment issue. I don't have access to a mirror cassette. The roller appears glazed so I figure that's the likely cause. It measures 12.8 mm x 7mm. The hub is 7.9mm wide with 2mm hole for the axle.
An Internet search turned up Studio Sound Electronics but they don't list that size.
