Nakamichi Cassette Deck 1.5 problem

My deck has begun to produce a low-level crackling sound from the right channel when playing back type 1 tapes. Tape types 2 & 4 are fine. I had optimistically hoped that it might be something to do with the tape type selector switches, but spraying these with contact cleaner has made no improvement. I can see no signs of bad solder joints, and the mass of internal interconnections seem to be secure. Can anyone offer any suggestions please?

er, the obvious:

clean the head with a soft swab and at least 90% isopropyl alcohol, or acetone (but be careful with acetone because it will melt plastic!)
beg, borrow or steal (or even purchase a head demagnetizer)
clean all switches in the circuit using electrical contact cleaner

if the problem persists, try re-flowing the solder...

Hi,

May be some component (cap, res, IC..) which is involved in EQ playback circuit of tape type "I", is problematic.

Thanks for the help so far. Not had the chance to do any further investigation, but I'm thinking along the same lines as you Ghianni. Does anyone out there have a service manual for this machine?
