I have a LP12 (sn~2000) that is old enough that there is no transformer in the PS -- just the wall connected right to the motor with a cap or two in there. Still works fine, but this seems worth doing something about. Any suggestions? Just a 1:1 transformer, or something more elaborate? And, anyone know offhand what the power draw might be?

It may come as a surprise but much newer LP12s have no transformers either
You seem to have the Nirvana supply which consists of a voltage dropping resistor and a phase splitting cap. My choice for the LP12 would be either a Valhalla or Lingo clone, yet some prefer a really big step-down transformer, similar to Naim's Armageddon. It depends on the type of sound you expect the Linn to make.

That's actually significantly more elaborate than mine
![]() A step down is certainly the easiest, so maybe I'll try that first and see what happens. |
