Hi,
A friend of mine bought a cheap second hand turntable , a kenwood P-T400. I connected it to the phono input on a fairly old Marantz integrated amp and said the sound was way too loud & distorted, but that using the Tuner input it seemed fine. I have not seen the turntable but I wondered if it possibly had a built in line-level preamp ? I'm a bit out of touch on analogue, but I know increasingly that amps have no phono input. I wondered if TT manufacturers have started building them in. |

In some cases yes, particularly in the case of recent low end models.
