Steel is usually a bad thing to conduct audio.
You may want to open them up and repackage them with epoxied ends and better wire leads.
There is a a thread about doing something like this somewhere around here.
Supposed to help and reduce the size.

I have a few of the larger ones and will eventually take one apart.

Are you sure that aren't the coax models ?? at 10k drop like a stone, no fullrange, never see ones without is dedicate tw.

very directional... can play really loud... subtle detailed highs... loads of slam and good low end also.... Indeed special. The open bafles are uge.

Yes.... And heavy gauge silver plating.... It even oxidates so bad I always need to polish the ends before soldering.... anyway, the results are splendid
