Hi Salas
This mod was awesome.... thank you so much.. Now I have 464 ohm Welwyn precision metal film in place of the stock 1k in series. Adding the benefits of no ceramic in parallel, the 27k RC55Y load seams very good indeed. There is a lot of detail (less distortion) and attack in the transients and the gain in dynamics is outstanding. I am already imagining what a direct link could do..... The strings are now really lifelike. I really need a jfet riaa.... it will show what the benz can do. I am amazed. Ricardo

Salas and nicoch46-
Haven't had a chance to mod more, I've been busy listening to more vinyl...this is addictive! Why do you recommend a NP for the source bypass? I might try an AN tant for the load. I'll stick to the PRP's for other R's. I took my (tired) pre out of the chain and a whole veil has been lifted..surprising! I now hear more subtle changes to VTA, etc. Good solid bass, too. Just can't play it late as it's plenty loud... |

You see? You did well in the end. Happy for you.
I find the BG NP open and nice there, that is why I recommended them. But it is always a total system fine tuning thing. It may go contrary to something easily. It is a bit like cooking. You better have a gamut of good ingredients and apply by experiment. But you mention it is loud enough already. Are you sure that you need the extra gain? If not, better avoid, because best cap is no cap. |

Salas, i owe You a cold one
Thanks a lot for the friendly push. After our little "talk" yesterday i couldn't resist trying again, and now i have a nice shunt working. It draws >250mA, and only gives 22.5 volts, but i noticed my 12V zener actually opened at 11.2V, so i guess it's not too far off. Again, thanks a lot for sharing this with us. Now i can move on to the RIAA |
