When listening to the v1.2r further, I am left with the impression of more revelation into the layers of the music. An excellent example would be Vangellis Heaven and Hell. In regards to the sound stage it hs gained more 3Dimensionallity. it is not as wide of a sound stage as the 1.2, x axis but the y axis as increased significantly in size. Back up singers are placed more accurately. Amanda McBroom for example. Amanda is up from and slightly to the right with the backup firmly to the left and behind the piano. Percussion is slightly left of center deep back of stage. oh and one of the backup singers has a tambourine ;-)

I remind, don't forget to re evaluate cart's load and riaa HF cap with every regulator type. You can strike even more tonal synergy and retain mostly positive characteristics in each one. He, that's really esoteric stuff.![]()
Now you touched all the important variables at the same time

For each shunt version I found a different setup with rload and 15n cap 🙂
The differences are small but finetuning is the only way to reach the needed EQ.
I also found very important the overall mix of caps used for vref and vout in the shunts.
There is no fixed formulas.... and everything bends acording to the rest of the system.
Merlin attention. Denon 103R spec is not only misleading for compliance which we have found with FFT and test record is really 16, but also for output impedance which is also wrong and really is 19 Ohm. I measured it. Now I use 220 Ohm load and goes very fine with 1.2R fleshed out mid bass. As it happened it was nicely a bit rounded over with 150R for 1.2 and its ''faster'' tone, but 1.2R proves more musically correct as it put me in some suspicion. I will even weigh the cart If I will take it out for some other thing.😀

🙄The higher than spec reading may have been an artifact of the coil heating up and glowing like a valve filament🙄
Nah, I touched it very fast, only as long as it took to show and I did it at the other end of the leads on the RCAs. 19.16 Ohm but I say 19 Ohm because of the interconnect and arm wires. Then again if it glowed, now I will have tube tone for free, and low noise. I could even manage the No noise spec if I burned it.
But its alive and kicking.

The modern DVMs have high internal impedance in resistance mode I trust. Very little current to give. But what about using a known resistor, measured on same DVM, like 2k2 in series and subtracting it from the total resistor+cart measurement. That should protect any
cart from any possibly strong DVM.
But the DVM must reliably show the correct extra Ohm relatively to the 2k2 bulk. Must be a rather good one for tolerance spec.


It is the only calibrated instrument I have. I think I can do a 4 wire measurement with the resistor to buffer the current. However, the 2 wire only passes 1mA and can be offset for lead resistance.
I measure 19.22R on the Right and 17.86R on the left channel. It is repeatable. I did this on the new one fresh out of the bx.
