Belt driven Motor placement and belt properties

I was wondering, where is the best location for the motor (distance, orientation angle, etc.) in a table such as a Nottingham Space Deck, Teres, etc. where the motor is disconnected from the platter? I'm assuming so both lengths of the belt are equidistant and other than that, I have no idea.

Also, how much tension should be on the belt? I suppose the answer is as little as needed....

Both the issues you mention are quite open to debate.

The amount of tension should not exceed the motor's axial load specification.
