Question Need help with Garrard GT55

Hi all! This is my first post here on the forums..hopefully the first of many.

My mother passed recently and I inherited her LPs along with her turntable, a Garrard GT55. I intend to make it a project with help from my brother and father by building a solid wood base instead of the old pressboard that it has now.

However, the cartridge that came with it (not installed) is not the cartridge that fits the player. My father bought it eons ago through the mail and managed to purchase the wrong one. I have no idea what I'm looking for, so I'm hoping to get a little help here. If someone could point me in the right direction for parts or just give me any info at all on this TT, I would be extremely grateful.

I've included a ling to a few pics...one of the TT and another of the tonearm. I hope these images help.

Thank you,

Greg

Hi,

The cartridge does not seem to be the "wrong" one.
Why do you think its wrong ? looks like a Shure M92E.

I must be attempting to install it wrong then. Every way I try just doesn't fit. I'm quite the novice when it comes to turntables.

Hi, the cartridge bolts in the carrier must be shortened, /sreten.

Can you take a closer photo of the cart and the carrier? It would help working out what is going wrong.

Thanks,
James

I think the problem may be that I have the wrong headshell. That is what the cart plugs into, correct? Then the headshell/cart connects to the tonearm? The one I've got just doesn't match up to the tonearm.

Big thanks to everyone for the responses I've gotten so far!

Hi,

The cartridges stylus looks terminal.

You obviously need the correct cartridge carrier / slide for that arm.

I've found out that I need a Garrard C6 cartridge slide. It's the only one that fits this tonearm and all of my internet searching has been fruitless.

What is stopping the slide from fitting? Is it the screws, or is it that the plastic of the slide is the wrong shape (too high/wide etc).

I don't know where you might be able to find one of those slides if the one you have doesn't fit, but I suspect that one might turn up on ebay at some point.

It's just the wrong shape to fit in the arm. The one I need is a LOT smaller. I'm sure I'll find one on ebay eventually. I'll just keep an eye out for it.
