i used michell orbe inverted bearing, the sub chasis is aluminium , motor and tonearm base bronze and stand alone. platter and ac motor from my michell syncro tt. all bases spiked.
i am waiting acrylic platter 6cm thickness. maybe i could be find magnet ring, i think bronze-teflon platter(30kg). i don't know calculate magnet push. my michell syncro ac motor is have problem. 33.3 rpm no problem but i change 45 rpm from pulley starting problem. problem is not starting i think adjustable speed motor( maybe origin live advanced motor). after all this turntable good sound than my old michell gyro se mk2. deep imaging and good detail.

That's some serious looking turntable Yildiray. I can't help you with the magnet thing, but there are others here who know about this sort of thing.
Good luck, Si. |

Great looking turntable, how about some detail on the rest of your system as well, it looks quite interesting..

Hi Yildiray,
Sounds like have a nice system there, I unfortunately do not know the answer to your question, but I imagine someone here who does will have some ideas for you within the next few days.. (weekends can be a bit slow here.) Which of your arms do you prefer? I have an SME 3009 Series II which I like quite a lot, and I have rebuilt and modded using some of the Analogtubeaudio.de bits and pieces.

I might know (or think that I do) the answer to your question but I'm not really sure what you are asking? If you use the 'search' function you will find quite a bit of information with regard to magnetic bearings. The reason you motor is reluctant to start the deck at 45rpm is likely 1/ motor torque is too low - look to the electronics as I believe the Syncro uses a high torque AC motor. 2/ the belt tension is too low - try moving the motor pod a little further away - the belt is stretched quite tight on Michell turntables, in my experience. I suspect that it is 2 and you are experiencing belt slip.
Changing the motor to one that allows electronic speed adjustment will not cure your slow start-up issue as it is a torque related issue - it is likely that DC motor you change to will have less torque than the unit you now use. |

Hi Yildiray
If I understand right your platter weight is 30kg. If that is the case your turntable motor seems to be doing ok to me. Push starting at 33 rpm will not do any harm and seems ok unless you do not want to push start. Once rotating you will not need a powerful motor as the weight of the turntable will keep the speed constant. If you do not want to push start I would fit a second turntable motor. Don |
