Default Thorens TD 125MKII speed inconsistent?

Hello, I have an old TD 125 MKII that I bought a long time ago. I suppose it's worse for lack of wear.

It's been around the world now, currently in Thailand.

I have almost 600 LP's nearly 80% of which I have yet to find a digital replacement for (via USBpre, CD or FLAC).

A few years ago I bought another one with an SME arm, but it failed here because of a jurry-rigged fuse setup not equipped for 50 cycle electricity.

So, I moved the SME to my old Thorens which has the original electronics and tone arm. It seemed fine until lately, when I have had some trouble with speed. The first sign of trouble was the last time I turned it on.

Having set the speed with a K-A-B Speedstrobe, I thought I was set, but it was off, so I adjusted it right away. The speed changed again, so I thought that maybe I should have waited a while.

Today I waited over half an hour, but ended up spending almost an hour off and on trying to get the speed right (so that the bars under the "33" of the strobe sheet don't drift. It seemed that as after trying to slow it down bit by bit it was suddenly too fast, and I had to reverse the process. Vice versa, suddenly too slow. What a pain. I started to worry that it either the spindle needs oiling or something else is wrong. I saw a thread about speed problems:

Thorens TD 125 speed problems

... but I'm not sure if my problem is directly related.

After recording six albums I checked it again, and it reads fast.

I suppose the difference is negligible based on a slow but noticable shift, if I remember correctly. Am I right about that? Is something failing?

My goal is to record the remaining 466 albums before something else in the link fails!

Thanks in advance for your feedback.
