Default Marantz PMD430

I have recently purchased one of these for use to playback and transfer old tapes to a computer. It seems to work but I have to adjust the pitch to maximum to slow the tapes down on playback. I would like to know if anyone has experience with these machines or a service manual and can help with how to check the record and playback speeds to see if it a) the record, b) the playback or c) the source tapes which were made on a variety of other machines.

Well, as an update, I purchased a service manual off Ebay. It does have some useful information including which POT I need to adjust and the adjustment range. I have put a 3khz tape through it and know it needs to be slowed down slightly (playing back at 3.1 khz)

What I have not been able to figure out is whether there is an access to the POT so that it can be adjusted while the unit is operational.

I would appreciate advice from anyone who has worked on one of these units to guide me on access the POT.
