Default need to know what's a good price for a Td 160 super..

sorry if this subject had come up but i searched and found nothing. i have an option to buy a 2nd hand TD 160 super and all though i own vinyl for a long time i don't really know anything about turntables. the girl who's selling it says she hardly used it and that it's in fine shape- lucky for me my dad knows everything about these kinds of devices and he confirmed it's fine shape.

the thing is, she wants something like 250-300$ for it and i did some reasearch around the net and not quite sure how good this price is. so i figured here there are people that could help out

thanks to all

There is a TD 160 on audiogon posted last night for $200, BUT...

250 is a decent priced if in good condition. Also, make sure to take off the belt and listen to the motor. The 160's are notorious for having bent motor shafts. The motor will make a squeaking noise each time it rotates with the belt off, but will seem fine with the belt on.

Hope that helps!

Hi,

As I recall the the TD160S came without a Thorens arm, which
is a good thing, so the price depends on what arm is fitted to it.

I might be totally off base here, but wasnt the 160B sold w/o an arm?

I think the super had a larger shaft or some such.

Hi, Yes, the TD160 also does not come with a Thorens arm, /sreten.

Default good price?

depends, but the LInn Basik Plus is a decent enough performer, better than any of the Thorens arms as far as I know. The new cost of a LInn Basik Plus should exceed the asking price of the complete table/arm itself. A very safe bet

The super should have the good metal subplatter. do a search for the "vinyl dept" and do a little research

Hi,

Anything under £150 is a good price for that combination in excellent condition.

Hi,

Just add an LVX+ cannot be "brand new" it was replaced by
the Akito around 1990, the Akito is a somewhat better arm.

A "brand new" Linn Akito II arm would be around $1300.

Default Linn Basik Plus...

could be NOS from a dealer (although Idon't know where there would be any). I have an Akito ll which is substantially better than both the Basik, and the Akito, but costs quite a bit more.

If the pebbled finish, and "made in Scotland" are on the Akito, as well as bronze coloured bearings, then it is an Akito ll. Alternately, with the serial number Linn can tell you hat the arm is, and they have good customer service (at least that's been my experience).
