I'm trying to add an aux iPod input to a 1990's Volvo tape deck. Evidently they were manufactured by Alpine. I tapped into the tape head input with some shielded USB cable. The R channel is perfect while the L is super garbled and at a MUCH higher level than the R. I can correct by changing the balance on the deck almost all the way right, but the L channel is still garbled. The R channel sounds great. I'm not an audio guy. Any ideas as to what might be going on? I checked the balance on the ipod already. Also, anyone have a suggestion as to dropping the line level down to something more appropriate for the tape input? It doesn't need to sound amazing, just work.
