Here is another item to add to the collection: this one uses a light bulb as control element.
Brilliant idea, isn't it?
Volume is controlled from zero to the maximum with a 0 to 10V control voltage.
Couldn't be simpler.
How does it sound?

Indeed: nowadays, all LDR's seem to be made by film deposition on a ceramic substrate and are severely non-linear.
~40 years ago, companies of the Philips group (Mullard, Valvo, RTC, MBLE, Elcoma, etc) made LDR's with sintered semiconductor material which were highly superior, but since there is no demand for such a top notch kind of product, it has been completely abandoned.
The film process is also less durable, which explains why my poor ST1700 THD meter is in such a bad condition: it uses a number of cheap Clairex optocouplers that have degraded and become non-linear with time. A real problem.
