Default Kit or Behringer ?

Between the preamp and my SE845 amp, have decided to inset a crossover crossing around 300Hz. The aim is to ease SE845’s job and lead lower freq to XTZs amps that will drive subs. I understand there are kits available for the job but is a Behringer DCX, DEQ(?) an alternative solution?
I would appreciate if you could summarize pros and cons in each case.
My criteria are audio quality of final result, Ease of experimentation (crossing point, slope) and Cost
