mic tube preamp as line stage

Would it be possible to use or modify a microphone preamp to use for input into an amp? Even if it were just a line stage to color the sound? I dont have any knowledge of the technical aspects of why this would or would not work.

But I use a art tube pre for my akg mic going right into my soundcard
. It has TRS input and output. Sounds really good! But more importantly they are inexpensive to buy. So that's the main reason for asking

Use, no. Modify, perhaps - depends on details of the preamp and your expertise in electronics. Line stages are not supposed to colour the sound, that is what FX boxes do.

Thanks, probably not worth the effort to mod it. I am new to audio an learning a lot. i guess i should google line stage, but the salesman at the hifi store told me a tube line stage is what i need to get some coloring but not increase gain. ill google it.

Take a look at (search for) the many tube line stage threads over in tubes/valves. One potential choice would be one based on the 12B4, something simple enough that perhaps you would consider building one with a little more experience.
