When I got my pre from ebay, right away I noticed the right channel is stronger than the left. After some research I found that replacing the caps could correct this. I have decided to replace everything in the signal path. The pics are when I replaced the two main caps. A bit of a difference in size.
I have since powered it on and wow, what a difference in the sound. |

Modern caps are much smaller, and typically lower ESR and DF if you selected them carefully.
I was thinking about a separate preamp to have hanging around so I can set up testing easier. This looks like basically 3 op-amps. What do you think of it? |
