![]() I have a Rotel RTC-970 (late 90s) and I lost it's remote(Model RR 970). The unit now is stuck in Pro-Logic mode, and the only mode selection is only possible on the RR 970 Remote controller. I really like this unit, but being able to switch to stereo mode is important for me as I can't use it as a stereo pre-Amplifier without it. So is there any way around this problem? At least converting it somehow to stereo mode. Replacement remotes I see are sold for $80 and above; which doesn't make any sense whatsoever; considering the this unit, I think could only fetch USD $40 ot $50 if sold. Here is the Manual from Rotel website www.rotel.com/content/manuals/rtc970_eng.pdf |

Prices of replacement remotes will be whatever the market will support...
Rotel probably uses Philips RC5 based commands like so many other manufacturers. This means that if you can turn up a Philips/Rotel audio remote with "loads of buttons" you may well find one that performs the function you want. Even a faulty remote if you can get one should be fixable enough to get the thing to transmit. Edit... just guessing but if the unit has a back up cap or battery then if you isolate that then the unit should revert to "out of the box" state. Whether that would be a good thing or not I wouldn't know as with no remote at all you may be stuck.

I tried with Philips AV remotes, TV remotes and even CD remotes. None of them seem to work... I just wonder is there anyway to factory reset with out opening up. Else I will open it up anyway... Once I get RC codes, I still need to use a learning remote or Programmable remote right? Currently I don't have one so that means it will cost more than the actual amount for the replacement remote

You would need a service manual really to see if any user reset options exist... pushing or holding buttons in specific sequence etc.
Removing a backup supply (if it has one) is an old trick when you have nothing to lose. As mentioned, whether that helps or not depends on what happens after a reset. You need a learning remote if you happen to find something that works it and you want to store the codes in a usable way.

Here you go....33 pages of schematics and funny little abbreviations (RTC-970 Technical Manual). I'd tell you where the back-up battery or switch is, but it's all English to me....(oh yeah, you'll have to actually scroll down to find the RTC-970 manual). You can find the owner's manual there too, but didn't think you needed that.
