Default Impedance matching LoZ source HiZ inputs

I'm trying to figure out the idea behind the transformer in this cable:

Pearstone LMT100 - Low to High Impedance Matching 8111240 B&H

The cable is designed for connecting a low impedance microphone to a DSLR with a high impedance microphone input.

I did some tests on the cable and found that I get the same signal level with the cable as when I use a transformerless cable with the same connections. Sending a 1k tone lights up the same 2db-wide meter segment on my DSLR. So am I correct to assume this means there is a 1:1 winding ratio on the transformer?

I just realized that perhaps the the transformer is designed to remove the voltage for "computer style" (5v or so) phantom power that the DSLR mike jack outputs.

Because if it were truly an impedance matching transformer it would have unequal numbers of windings and I would be getting a larger voltage out of it than the 1k tone into it, right?

Yeah, I think removing the low voltage phantom power is the raison d etre of this transformer.
